TRIVIA
▼ In the shadows of Gula Church, there is a painting of a boy holding a sword protecting two girls. Cecille believes Serge painted this as a child in a place where his supervisor wouldn't see and scold him for it. She also states the left-handed boy has an evil look to him. This leads to L'Arc's conclusion that Serge became a mercenary for the girls, Selena and Maria, and Ryfia assures him that Serge must remember, because one can see where the dust has been wiped off.
▼ Serge states in a skit that he fell in love with a girl he'd known to be like a younger sister when he was 13 years old (or as he puts it, she "suddenly transformed" as he started looking at her as a lover). This girl was most likely Selena.
▼ When Selena was alive, he gave her a pink/purple gem that she still has with her as a half-transformed Feldragon in the QED's laboratory deep within Gula Church. This is how Serge recognizes that it's her before the party has no choice but to kill her. (However, knowing that the transformation is irreversible, he refers to Selena as "it.") Ryfia points out that he looks sad when he picks up the gem from the corpse. He gives the accessory to Maria to remember Selena by.
▼ Although Maria addresses him as Leon once in a while, residents of Ebur exclusively call him by his given name. Serge's surname is revealed only in the perfect guide, and one can plainly see that he lifted his alias from Leonhart (レオンハルト).
▼ The Lord Knights disbanded 15 years prior to the main story, suggesting that they were functional for at least three years.
▼ In the prologue, he's initially mistaken to be in league with the thieves at Mandelro Coast, so he runs with the assumption by claiming that he was their navigator. This deception is further supported in-game by how he has the ability to steal with his default weapon.
▼ As Leon, he was predominantly left-handed. In the present, because of his healed but permanent injury, he makes use of both hands in an ambidextrous manner by wielding daggers. He uses his right hand to cast spells, though some Excel Acts focus on his left hand.
▼ Trust that can be put into words isn't trust at all in his book.
▼ His sound of distress, or when he just wants to complain, is "boo-boo" (ブーブー).
▼ His favorite food is freshly baked bread. His favorite part about himself is his face.
▼ He tends to give women and girls nicknames. Leslie is Violent Femme, Cecille is Minimal Lady, and Sonia is Smart Beauty. They're meant to be endearing, but aren't always flattering, as the first two indicate.
▼ Statistics-wise, he's the best offensive magic user the game has to offer, and his DP (points for magic usage) exceeds those of his party members. L'Arc can rival him in stats with the right customization, and Ryfia is a close second as a support caster. In a similar vein, he has some experience with Code, Fulheim's equivalent of an atom, and is able to work on Gula's manipulated Biocode with Ryfia's assistance.
▼ In the original Japanese release, his old title is Godspeed Leon (神速のレオン). The official website for the game alludes to this and his naturally high speed stats by addressing him as Godspeed Thief (神速の盗賊).
HEADCANON
▼ His birthday is on December 18 (Sagittarius).
▼ Serge was orphaned as an infant. He has no memory of his parents or family.
▼ He proposed to Selena on his 14th birthday, and shortly formed the Lord Knights thereafter. (He started as an independent mercenary, then founded the guild once he met Zamuel and Rex.)
▼ He was in the company of L'Arc several times as Leon, and even got to hold him. As Rex's son, Serge couldn't help but be somewhat envious of L'Arc at first. The relationship they would come to share in the present is almost brotherly in nature.

This is a compilation of drabbles I've written and am continually updating to fill holes in Serge's backstory. As such, it is riddled with spoilers and oozing with headcanon. I'm always down for suggestions! Enjoy.
The other day, Zamuel told me that my name lacked spark. I didn't know what he wanted me to do about that (it's not like I named myself), but then he told me that I should take up an alias. An alias that would strike fear in the hearts of those who dared to be our nemeses.
I spent all of yesterday trying to think of a name. It was harder than I thought.
So today, I went to Selena for help. I told her what I had in mind -- Zamuel had told me my reflexes with the sword are legendary, as quick as lightning. I intended to incorporate that into my new name to fry my foes. Or something like that.
We talked inside the church. Sitting in one of the benches in the prayer hall, we were alone.
"Hm . . . like lightning?" she says with a thoughtful look. "Lightning Leonhart."
"That's a mouthful," I complain. "And way too stuffy. I'm going to be a mercenary, not a general."
Then again, that's too silly for a general. That's the way it is. The military likes to look down on mercenaries because we aren't sanctioned by the government like they are. Who wants to work for those politicians, anyway?
Selena giggles.
"Then how about Leon?"
"Huh?"
I think about it, then nod.
"Lightning Leon . . . That sounds a lot better. The name of a true mercenary guild leader."
"I'm glad you like it. It suits you."
At that, I smirk. My fingers dance along the hilt of my blade.
"You think I'm cool?"
Selena always tells me how strong I am for my age, and how great things are in store for me. She likes to talk about the future, but I'm more focused on the present. After all, if I don't make progress now, I'm not going to get anywhere.
She's the reason.
And she gives me that heavenly smile of hers, where she tilts her head to the side and the corner of her lips expand gently. As if she were a carefully knit doll that could break apart at the lightest tug.
Then she says, "Of course I do. But not when you gloat."
"Ah."
At his age, Leon is in the prime of his development, and with the already budding affection between him and Selena, her voice, he thinks, is something out of this world, something that could surpass even the Ship to the Stars in mileage. The softness of her words never fails to grab his attention, to the point he trails after her whenever she talks, even if it isn't to him.
(Zamuel said something about boys being wolves and girls being sheep, but Leon hadn't paid attention at the time, because he didn't see what sheep had to do with Selena.)
Hearing her speak is but one proof of her health, a blessing he drinks up as he walks behind her and Ellie, his eyes glued to his fiancée's back and the crown of little Maria's head nestled in her elder sister's arms.
They're discussing flower language, a subject he's unabashedly come to appreciate between the three of them. Looking at flowers beats some of the technical work and chores the old priest tended to have him do. He'd much prefer something visually appealing.
Zamuel had told him that girls liked getting flowers, so Leon had swept the fields and gathered a handful to present to Selena, only to have been scolded by Ellie for destroying the garden and getting dirt on his pants. He'd cursed Zamuel in the corner of his mind countless times during the lecture, though he'd smiled toward the end when he noticed Selena putting a flower he'd picked atop her ear and giving him a wave from the doorway.
And then Ellie had cupped him on the head with her hand -- gently, always gently -- to get him to pay attention.
"Leon, look -- "
The voice of heaven snaps him out of his thoughts, and he looks up, but all he sees is gray before his face meets the hard, unforgiving wall of the church just next to the door.
Stumbling back one step and disoriented, he can hear Selena's gasp and Maria's innocent giggling fit as Ellie comes over and asks if he's okay. He waves her away with his (injured) boyish pride, yelling -- gently -- that this is nothing and cracking an eye open to get a look at Selena.
Her brows are knit in concern, but she smiles.
Approximately three months and sixteen days old, L'Arc Bright Lagoon is the newborn son of Rex Lagoon and Elena. True to his name, the babe is quiet as the lake but brimming with immeasurable potential.
To Leon's right, Zamuel proudly proclaims the boy will make an excellent swordsman and magic user like his father with the soothing temperament of his mother. Rex humors him while Elena smiles, but all Leon can do is stare at the baby in the latter's arms. This isn't the first time he's seen an infant -- on the contrary, he's known Maria for a while and she's just beginning to hone her speech -- but this is different, because L'Arc is Rex's son.
Then L'Arc suddenly moves, though it's not really him when Leon notices that the bundle is now attached to Rex, who turns and offers it to him. Cautiously and gingerly, Leon takes the wrapped baby, but his inexperience in handling newborns shows with L'Arc's obvious discomfort from the scrunching of his tiny brows on his portly face. Leon panics and is just about ready to toss the bundle to anyone, even Zamuel, but Rex puts a hand on his arm to calm him down.
"Give it some time," he says. "I know he'll like you."
Leon looks down at L'Arc, who continues to sleep otherwise undisturbed.
His heart beats rapidly even though his mind reasons that there's nothing to be nervous or scared of, but soon enough the awkward position becomes more natural. (Rex is fond of telling him that he's quick to adapt, which lends to his strength as both a person and a swordsman.)
Rex has gone outside to talk with Zamuel and Rastan (who'd declined to come inside), so only Elena is left with the two boys. Feeble despite her relative youth, she remains in bed and watches with a supportive smile. She eventually speaks up to tell him that Rex is right, because L'Arc would appreciate having an older figure to look up to and learn from.
L'Arc wakes with a muffled cry then, and Leon deposits the bundle into Elena's open arms. It's his turn to watch as she cradles him side to side, the smile now directed at him. Leon doesn't mind this. That's her son, after all.
(Leon wonders if he and Selena will have a son, too.)
L'Arc is a really cute baby.
